Helping your child host an Earth Party is a neat way to get kids connected to their food. Start with a special trip to your local grocery store (or if you can, farmer’s market) to gather basic ingredients for a kid-friendly meal.

Bring your child along and strike up some banter about food in general. Like, “Hey, what’s this?” or “Have you ever tried these?” “Where’d that come from?” “How’d those get in that bag?”
Preparing the food can be part of the party. With a bit of careful planning, kids can be coached through the process of creating the meal itself. They can also get involved in setting the table. Creating a wacky food-ish centerpiece will stretch imaginations and set the tone for an out-of-ordinarily good time. The kids can also create their own place mats, decorate drink cups, or even make party hats for the occasion.
During the meal, ask questions about the food, share stories about eating, and toss around fun food facts. You might even create your own Kid’s Earth Dinner cards based on the downloadable Earth Dinner cards.
Close out the party with a few good food games.
Check out these Earth Dinner stories to get some ideas. If you've got some suggestions or a good
experience to share, tell us about it! It’s my job to inspire kids (and parents) to think about the things they eat, and I suspect hosting
an
Earth Party might just do the trick!
